Policy on Underage Children
Rugby School Nigeria adheres strictly to the age bands for secondary school year groups. If a child is not the appropriate age for their desired year group by the 31st of August, then we are usually unable to admit them. We must remain in compliance with Rugby Global academic standards. In order to make an exception, to accommodate gifted and talented students, the applicant must demonstrate the emotional and social capacity to be in their desired year group and must have outstanding results in their CATS4 exam. They will have much stricter evaluations of their CATS4 and PASS results and the standards for their student interview will be much higher. The final decision will be made at the discretion of the Head of School.
Language School Application
For older applicants coming from a different curriculum background, additional written tests may be required. While we do have EAL support, students must demonstrate a good understanding of the English language to access the curriculum and be in possession of the expected general knowledge for the level of their desired year group.
Uncommon Year Group Entry
We do not usually accept applicants looking to enter Year 11 or Year 13. While an applicant can undergo the admission process, it will require additional steps. Additional testing may be required; there will be review of previous academic performance at the last school. We will need the submission of mock IGCSE and A-level results. For subjects that require course work, we will need the submission a full portfolio that meets the standards of heads of department for the subject. Additionally, for students looking to join in Year 10 and take course work focused subjects (Art, D&T, Music) there may be additional evaluation from those subject teachers, to verify their capacity.
